  1. IMO, The ANA analysis of this study ( http://www.nursingworld.org/HomepageCategory/NursingInsider/Analysis-Nurse-Staffing-Inpatient-Mortality-Study.aspx )misses an important point. The results of the study support legislation mandating hospitals to adhere to their target staffing levels and those staffing levels must be upwardly adjustable to respond to conditions on the unit in real time.
    There is a misconception that all “staffing ratio” legislation proposes unadjustable RN staffing levels!
